things feeling alive rn: 

  • holochain: Agent-centric, ecological view on computer networks. Conceptually they're getting everything right and. I want to build a bit in it before going all in but I think it's how the internet should look like. [url]
  • wolfram physics: Says the universe is made of my two favorite toys: graph cellular-automata. Also promises analogies with ecology, markets, the structure of mathematics. I've always been too lazy to take the regular path to the bottom of Physics so I'm glad to have a promising CS-y lens. [url]
  • category theory: I like the notion of defining mathematical objects with little glyphs. Promises free analogies between all branches of math. Heavily used as a tool in Wolfram Physics and functional programming which I care about. [url]
  • breathing with my eyes closed: A lot of alpha in meditation and energy stuff. Much knowledge from phenomenology too. Also like thinking about mystical traditions and Dunbar-level coordination. (thread on arriving at woo from STEM)
  • super smash brothers melee: Sick 20 year-old game. Mad community. I find it trains mindfulness, flow, and reading people.

things that used to feel more alive:

  • machine learning: My focus in university. Full of exciting concepts and rich metaphors. The research scene is becoming too gated to break into. Less of an impact to be made there at least for me.
  • blockchain: Crypto is really cool. There's a lot of energy (and money) involved. I just think Holochain-style peer-to-peer architectures are more exciting and likely to save the Internet than global ledgers.
  • tools-for-thought: Super high-leverage tools. I like thinking about their mechanics and even made threadhelper to irrigate the past on twitter, make it more suited for knowledge work. The next frontier is collaborative knowledge work (bleeding into science) which I think will evolve fine with or without me. But it needs healthy agent-centric infrastructure to reach full potential.
